In the exhibition 'TOUCH AND SMELL THE COLOURS OF THIS WORLD' by peter de Cupere, you can discover how scent and colour are related to each other. Some colours will smell like we think they will, others will not. It depends of your origin, culture, habits and perception on how you believe that a scent can be a representative to a colour and vice versa. The work also lets you reflect on society. The used scents are easy to recognize, but what do they mean to you? Do these scents reflect society? Or are it just scents and colours? For some people it might be, for others it might mean much more. Do not look at this work as a visual exploration, or not even as an olfactory registration, but look at this work according to the meaning. Why the scent, why the colour and especially what does it say to you if you think further than just registering a colour and a scent. When you stand in front of one colour scent print it is like a colour field but not only visual, but also olfactorally and meaningful. When standing in front of the black paper, inhale the scent, sniff and reflect on what you think? When you are standing in front of the green paper and you smell the grass scent, the green is not just green; it is not only a colour, but a remembrance. It is not nature, it is a reflection of what you read. How you read the scent in relation to the colour. How scent can be the concept and the context of a work. Touch, smell and reflect!
